Faculty and Adjunct Faculty


The faculty of the Health Informatics Program bring rich and varied professional experiences to the courses.  The faculty members are leaders in the fields of health informatics, medical librarianship, health care, consumer health, public health, and medical digital imaging.

 

Ana D. Cleveland, MS, PhD, AHIP


Dr. Cleveland teaches SLIS 5600: Introduction to Information Access and Retrieval and SLIS 5637: Medical Informatics.  She is a Professor and Director of the Health Informatics Program, part of the School of Library and Information Sciences at the University of North Texas, and serves as a Fellow of the Texas Center for Digital Knowledge. She also holds an adjunct faculty position in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Texas-Health Sciences Center at Fort Worth.  Her research interests are indexing of medical information, organization of digital clinical information, and the information-seeking behavior of primary care physicians.

 

 

Deborah Halsted, MLS, MA  


Deborah Halsted teaches SLIS 5960: Community-Based Health Information. She is the Director of Library Operations of the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library.  

Gale Hannigan, MLS, MPH, Ph.D. - Texas A&M HSC

Gale G. Hannigan, MLS, MPH, PhD, AHIP


Dr. Hannigan teaches SLIS 5365:Health Sciences Information Management.  She is the Director of Informatics for Medical Education at the Texas A&M College of Medicine and Medical Sciences Library.

Kathy Hoffman, MLS, AHIP


Kathy Hoffman has taught SLIS 5365: Health Sciences Information Management and serves on the Board of Advisors for School of Library and Information Sciences. She is the Executive Director of The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Research Medical Library.

 

 

Michelynn McKnight, MM, MLIS, PhD, AHIP


Michelynn McKnight teaches SLIS 5960: Information-Seeking Behavior of Health Care Providers.  She is the former Director of the Norman Regional Hospital Health Sciences Library and a graduate of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Information Science at the University of North Texas.

 

 

 

Herman Oosterwijk, MS, MBA 


Herman Oosterwijk teaches SLIS 5960: Medical Digital Imaging and serves as an Associate Fellow of the Texas Center for Digital Knowledge. He is also the President of OTech Inc., a healthcare technology training and consulting company.

 

Timothy Stettheimer, Ph.D., CHE, CPHIMS


Tim Stettheimer teaches SLIS 5637: Medical Informatics.  He is the Vice President and CIO of St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

 

Kelly Thomas, MA


Kelly Thomas teaches SLIS 5960: Medical Digital Imaging.  She is the Manager of Purchasing and Library Services for the J.A. Majors Company and is currently a doctoral student in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Information Science at the University of North Texas.  Her research area is medical digital imaging.

Helena VonVille teaches SLIS 5960: Community-Based Health Information. She is the Director of the School of Public Health Library at the University of Texas-Houston.
