The House of Representatives provides access to U. S.  Laws arranged by original published source. This United States Code edition was a joint development by the Office of the Law Revision Council of the U. S. House of Representatives, in cooperation with the House Information Resources and Personal Library Software. The United States Code contains the text of current public laws enacted by Congress. Originally an experiment, the service was developed to demonstrate the potential for making the United States code available to the public at no charge. Titles 1 through 5 of this database are currently up-to-date through January 5, 1999. Titles 6 through 50 of this database are currently up-to-date through
January 26, 1998 The database includes all official U.S. Code notes and appendices, as well as the Table of Popular Names. The U.S. Code database constitutes the 1994 Edition of the U.S. Code, plus Supplement III and the contents of the most recent edition of the Law Revision Counsel's U.S. Code Classification Table. The U.S. Code Classification Table covers Public Laws 104-1 through 106-31 (enacted May 21, 1999). The text of recently adopted public laws is separately available
through the University of California's GPO Gate. There is a search engine for the database.

U. S. Code - Table of Popular Names  -  http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/topn/

Part of the Legal Information Institute (LII) site at Cornell University Law School. This site has a hypertext version of the entire federal code. The U.S. Code mounted on this site is generated from the most recent version of the Government Printing Office CD-ROM containing the laws in force as of  January 26, 1994. Amendments and revisions to the Code must be updated via other systems such as LEXIS, WESTLAW, or pubished versions. To be sure that the user has an up-to-date picture of the statutes dealing with a topic the user must consult one of the versions of the U.S. Code and determine whether there have been any amendments or additions passed in the Congress. The LII site has mechanisms to determine any updates by three forms that implement searches  of the hypertext linked THOMAS site to update by Title Number, by Subject, or by Key Word. In addition, several significant laws, the Freedom of Information Act; the Copyright, Patent and Trademark (Lanham) Acts; and the Securities Exchange Act of 1994 are separately published.
