A young man requests his inheritance from his father only to waste the entire sum he receives on his own desires. After he is forced to take the most unseemly of jobs in order to survive, he chooses to return to his fatherís house, asking to be hired as one of the common laborers employed by his father. Upon his arrival, the young man is stunned by his fatherís loving welcome and celebration of his return. This parable was told by Jesus to illustrate the picture of God as the loving Father, eager to forgive and longing for the return of his child.
