Abstract/Summary

With the odds stacked against her, Sophie Germain refused to set aside her passion for, and brilliance with, numbers. Born in Paris in 1776, Germain battled confinement during the French Revolution, social prejudices against her class and gender, and blatant lacks of recognition by her peers in order to pursue her studies and persevere in her field. Her refusal to quit resulted in her becoming one of the relatively few female heroes in the history of mathematics. This inspirational story of Sophie Germain's journey reminds us that, with determination and drive, no obstacle is insurmountable.
