Abstract/Summary:

America was at war with the British and the city of Baltimore was about to be attacked.  The president asked a man to sail into enemy territory and negotiate the release of an American prisoner.  His mission was successful but only after he spent the night on an enemy ship as the battle broke out. This young lawyer awakes to see a flag flying and signifying victory for his country.  He survives to tell his tale in a poem entitled "The Defense of Fort McHenry".  That poem would later inspire Americans and become a legacy of our great country's pride and freedom.
