 INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION

My early childhood was spent traveling around the country as my father got his degree and sought a permanent teaching position at a university. At two weeks old, I moved from North Carolina to Texas in a laundry basket on the front seat of my parent's station wagon. My family lived in ten states until we landed in Las Vegas, Nevada. I graduated from high school in a ceremony held in a Las Vegas casino. Seeking independence and an advanced education, I left home to attend the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada. As a student, I worked part time at the university library. Now, I enjoy working as a library assistant for the Sparks Library of the Washoe County Library System.

STORYTELLING INTERESTS

Following my father's example, I began telling tales at an early age. I have always enjoyed listening to stories and reading. I discovered the library as a young child. My family would walk to the public library in the evenings. I was happy to find the children's section. Arriving home, I would read my books late into the night. The stories that I read inspired my imagination and my dreams.

My courses with the University of North Texas have introduced me to the art of storytelling. I treasure the personal stories from my family and friends. In addition to reading stories, I look forward to telling stories at the library story time. I believe that a storytelling may encourage a young person to read the book.
