ABSTRACT/SUMMARY

Czar Bendei finds that his golden apples are being stolen by a firebird and sends his three sons to find it. The two oldest sons fall asleep soon after they leave home. The youngest son, Ivan, continues on the journey. After a while he stops to find food. While he is searching a wolf comes along and eats his horse. To repay Ivan the wolf tries to help him find the firebird. Unfortunately, Ivan doesn’t listen and his journey becomes much longer because of his need to do things his own way.
