Stories that Bring
Hope, Happiness and Healing
to the Human Heart ...
A Concert for Everyone

Welcome

Mini-Semester 2004 ~ Advanced Storytelling Class
University of North Texas
~ School of Library and Information Sciences
proudly presents this collection of stories
-- a journey into the heart --
for your encouragement and pleasure!

These stories are a traveling trunk filled with family portraits, classic characters, canine friends, new heroes and heroines, and life’s experiences.  Please open the trunk and let us share our ideas, humor, feelings, values, uniqueness and community with you.  Hear stories that honor the past and prepare us for the future -- together.  We have spread before you stories to nourish your hopes, feed your happiness, and heal your heart.

Travel with us on this journey into the human heart and gather strength from this collection of stories.  We all hope you will take a moment for yourself to reenergize with some feel-good stories. These stories will not disappoint in their ability to provide comfort and encouragement to your day!

Happiness often sneaks through a door you didn't know you left open.
-- John Barrymore

Meet The Concert Planners!

This entire concert and all of its materials, storytelling work, and digital media was developed over a period of just 12 days, May 10 - May 21, 2004!

Please meet the participants in our concert by reading our biographies located on the concert page.  Each biography will allow you a short peek into the storyteller’s life and explain a little of where she has come from and where she is going.  Below is a table of the committees so you also know who worked on other various aspects of this concert.

Our concert has been designed to give hope and inspiration to all.  You can get an idea of what to expect from each story by reading the story abstracts, also located on the concert page. These will introduce you to each story's source material, classification, rating, and summary.  Hopefully, the story abstract will leave you with the anticipation of the story you are about to hear. The abstracts can also help teachers and parents screen stories for appropriateness.

We must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope. --
Scottish Proverb

Hope is the thing with feathers  That perches in the soul,  And sings the tune without the words,  And never stops at all,  And sweetest in the gale is heard;  And sore must be the storm  That could abash the little bird  That kept so many warm.  I've heard it in the chillest land,  And on the strangest sea;  Yet, never, in extremity,  It asked a crumb of me. -- Emily Dickinson.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope. -- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Never talk defeat. Use words like hope, belief, faith, victory. -- Norman Vincent Peale

Hope is always available to us. When we feel defeated, we need only take a deep breath and say, "Yes," and hope will reappear. -- Monroe Forester
