Title of the Story: Jack Cures the Doctor Story Source Material: Appalachian Jack Tale Resources Taletype Classification of the Story: Jack Tale Story Rating: General Audience Abstract/Summary The Jack Tales are a cycle of stories that revolve around a character named Jack. You may have heard of Jack and Jill or Jack and the Beanstalk. It's the same Jack! The character of Jack is sometimes a most clever and tricky boy (or man) and other times he is a real knucklehead. Jack can also be as lazy as a summer day and in an instant become very brave and determined. In the end, Jack is always in charge of his own destiny -- whether disastrous or delightful. In this story, Jack is determined to win a contest so that he can marry the beautiful daughter of the old country doctor. To do that, he has to figure out how to cure the doctor of his ailments. And, if you know Jack, well, he'll find a way!! |
