A. Read the article at http://www.orst.edu/dept/ncs/newsarch/1997/July97/animalrights.htm .
  1. What kind of animals is the article about?
  2. What does the term "animal rights" mean?
  3. Who is Steve Davis? Where does he work? What does he do?
  4. What kind of survey did Prof. Davis take? What question did he ask (paraphrase it)? Whom did he ask? 
  5. Pick 5 quotes and then paraphrase them. Save them in a Word document on a floppy disk and bring them to class tomorrow.
  6. You ranked 8 kinds of animals in order of intelligence. How do Americans rank those same animals?  Are they different from your ranking? Survey your classmates in OLT. Are your rankings as a class similar to, identical to, or very different from those of the Americans surveyed? 

B. Then read Research Skills: Quotations and Paraphrases 1 , and do the exercises.  Save your paraphrases in Word, and email them to me.
